Class Offerings
Kingsport Ballet offers classical ballet instruction for students ages 3 through adult. Our class offerings range from ballet, pointe and partnering, contemporary dance and jazz to introductory dance movement for young children and adult ballet for adults who wish to learn ballet as a new skill or hobby, or for previous dancers who would like to revisit their love of dance.
Pre-School Program
Dance Movement
Ages 3–4
Begin your child’s introduction to ballet in our Dance Movement program. Classes are created specifically for 3 to 4-year-olds with a safe, age-appropriate curriculum that will get them excited about dance! The goal of our dance movement classes it to introduce them to movement and dance concepts while keeping classes fun for the little ones!
There are plenty of wonderful by-products of this program such as learning to work as a group, following directions and listening, learning about music and how to identify rhythm, tempo, melody and much, much more!

Preparatory Ballet
Ages 5–6
Ballet Prep is geared towards younger students ages 5 and 6 with the primary goal of introducing them to the foundation of ballet concepts. In Prep classes, they will learn about the different ballet positions, proper posture, and basic ballet movements that create the baseline for more complex and advanced movements as they grow in their ballet education.
Ballet Prep students attend classes once per week. Students in Prep Ballet may take an additional form of dance - “Little Jazz” or “Little Contemporary”
Lower School Ballet
BI
Ages 7–8

Ballet I students attend one ballet class per week. Eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to support becoming a well-rounded dancer.
BIIA and BIIB
Ages 8–9
Ballet IIA and IIB students attend one or two ballet classes per week. Eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to support becoming a well-rounded dancer.
Intermediate School Ballet
BIIIA
Ages 9–11
Ballet IIIA students attend three ballet classes per week and will begin pre-pointe strengthening. They are eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to be a well-rounded dancer.
BIIIC
Ages 10–12
Ballet IIIC students attend three ballet classes per week and may do pointe work. They are eligible to audition for the Nutcracker and may receive an invitation to be “Company Candidates”. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to be a well-rounded dancer.
BIIIB
Ages 10–12
Ballet IIIB students attend three ballet classes per week and may begin pointe work. Students in Ballet IIIB may receive an invitation to be “Company Candidates”. They are eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to be a well-rounded dancer.
BIIIR
Ages 9–13
Ballet IIIR students are on the KB Recreational Track. Recreational Track students may take class any number of days per week. They will not be on pre-pointe or the Company Track. This allows an appreciation and enjoyment of the art of ballet with a lighter schedule commitment.
Upper School Ballet
BIVA and BIVB
Ages 12+
Ballet IVA and IVB students attend four, 1.5-hour ballet classes per week, including pointe and partnering. Students will be cast in KB productions; role will be determined at a formal audition. Students in Ballet IVA and higher are eligible to join Kingsport Ballet’s Company. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is required for Company membership. All Company members are required to attend a minimum of 2 weeks of Summer Intensive.
BV & BVI
Ages 12+
Ballet V and VI students attend five, 1.5-hour ballet classes per week including pointe and partnering. Students will be cast in KB productions; role will be determined at a formal audition. Students in Ballet IVA and higher are eligible to join Kingsport Ballet’s Company. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is required for Company membership. All Company members are required to attend a minimum of 2 weeks of Summer Intensive.
Kingsport Ballet Company
Students who participate in the Kingsport Ballet Company are instilled with dedication and love for ballet. Being a part of the KB Company allows students to hone in on their passion and grow their abilities in dance, receiving instruction from our talented and extremely experienced Artistic Director and other Guest Teachers. Students in Ballet IV and up are eligible to join the Company. Company classes are held on Saturday mornings each week.
Summer Intensive
Kingsport Ballet’s summer workshop program is a high-paced series of classes over three weeks in June. For the intensive, Kingsport Ballet welcomes professional master teachers from around the country who deliver instruction in ballet, pointe and variations, partnering, modern and contemporary, jazz, yoga, nutrition, and much more!
Attend for 1, 2, or all 3 weeks, full or half days are available. We provide exciting, educational, and unique instruction to all levels. Company members are required to attend at least two weeks of Summer Intensive.
The 2024 Summer Intensive will be held from June 10–28, 2024.
Recreational Track
Levels with an “R” designation next to the name signify that there is a Recreational Track option. The Recreational Track is available for levels BIII and higher. This track allows students to enjoy our high-quality ballet education at a part-time, lighter schedule. Please note that the class day/time your student chooses will be their assigned class every week.
Company Track
Levels BIIIB and higher are eligible for the Company Track. Company membership allows dancers to receive pre-professional training with world-class performance opportunities. Company dancers experience mainstage performances and community outreach. These students will have the opportunity to receive training in pas de deux and learn high-level classical variations.
More Class Offerings
Contemporary
Our contemporary instructor, Raleigh Shelton, brings a fun twist to the contemporary experience. Being well-trained in additional forms of dance helps dancers become more aware of their body in movement and creates a more well-rounded dancer.
Contemporary classes are offered for ages 7 and up.
Private Lessons
For those students wishing to dedicate themselves to ballet, or to work on a specific skill, we offer private lessons. If you are interested in receiving private lessons, please contact us using the button below and we will be in contact to schedule a time.

We accept new students year-round. To become a student at Kingsport Ballet, you can fill out the form here or email kingsportballet@gmail.com

Class levels are typically determined by age. As students get older, classes can also be determined by experience and skill. If you would like help determining your student’s class level, you may request an evaluation so that our teachers can gauge their current abilities and place them in the level that would best fit your student. Please email kingsportballet@gmail.com to arrange an evaluation.

Kingsport Ballet Company dancers are automatically included in our productions and will be cast during formally held auditions. Non-company KB students age 7+ and outside students may audition for a role in the Nutcracker each Fall. Auditions for our full-length Spring ballets are held each January and are open to dedicated area students.

Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. Enrolled students will receive an emailed invoice 5 days before the due date.

Recreational Track allows students IIIB and higher to choose a lighter ballet schedule. By not having to fulfill the required number of classes required for Company membership, student can still enjoy the high-quality ballet education that Kingsport Ballet provides but at a more recreational schedule. Students on the Recreational Track forgo pointe training (unless they choose to take 3+ ballet technique classes per week), automatic inclusion in productions (though they may audition for Corps roles), as well as chances for higher caliber roles in productions.
